Boys of Summer Baseball Training
Frequently Asked Questions
Q: Where and when are the Boys of Summer Camps held?
A: Boys of Summer camps currently are held in and service Upper Midwest baseball players. B.O.S. originated in Fargo, ND, however we also run camps on location in MN, SD, IA, and other select cities in ND. Our camps typically take place November through April, and again in late August-early October (Fall Clinics). Please click HERE to see our most recent camp schedule.
Q: Where do I find the schedule and how do I register?
A: Our training camp schedules are released throughout the year, so check the Schedule & Registration page frequently. Also, to register, you can either print the camp flyer and fill out the registration and mail a check, OR register and pay online. We use Paypal to process our online registrations, it is 100% secure and you do not need a Paypal account to complete a registration.
Q: Do I have to fill out a WAIVER before camp?
A: Yes, EVERY B.O.S. participant MUST fill out the Registration Form and Waiver and turn it in BEFORE camp participation. You download and print off our Univeral Registration form and Waiver by Clicking HERE.
Q: Does Boys of Summer have a facility?
A: As of November 2009, B.O.S. has joined forces with DASH Sports in Fargo, ND. The DASH facility features 15,000 square feet of training area, Astroturf, multiple batting cages/hitting & pitching tunnels, free weights, plyometric areas, and more….For all of our camps outside of Fargo, we partner up with local sports facilities or teams in that area for the particular camp or clinic.
Q: What if I want Boys of Summer to host a camp/clinic in my hometown?
A: Contact B.O.S. owner/director Josh Oien at 701-306-3218 or josh@boscamps.com. We are always looking to expand to new cities and get into communities that want top notch baseball instruction for their youth players.
Q: How much does a Boys of Summer camp cost?
A: The cost for each camp varies based on the total training time (hours) that each camper receives. Typically our camp will range from $9 to $17 per hour of training. Cost per camp generally ranges from $95 to $395+ depending on length and total training time. Click Schedule & Registration for our latest camp details.
Q: What if I can't make the entire camp, but I still want to come for some of the days? Do I still have to pay full price?
A: We are sensitive to families/players that have time conflicts; therefore we take each situation on an individual basis. We are quite flexible and will work with unique situations to pro-rate the cost based on how much camp can be attended. We would rather have an athlete attend 8 of 12 possible sessions at a reduced rate, as opposed to not attending the camp at all.
Q: Are there any type of scholarships available?
A: Again, B.O.S. is sensitive to those families with financial situations, and it is always best to call and work out a solution.
Q: What do I get from the camp?
A: Each camp we offer is different, and it's always best to read the individual flyer associated with each camp. Ultimately, you will get everything that is listed on the flyer (and usually more). Each one of our camps includes a t-shirt or cap, and almost all camps include a video analysis of either hitting or pitching/throwing, and player report or some type of paperwork/material from the camp. Select camps you will also receive a DVD of your hitting, pitching, fielding, or all three. All of this is in addition to the top notch instruction and training provided by the B.O.S. Instructors.
Q: Who are the instructors for the camps?
A: Our camps are comprised of both dedicated Boys of Summer instructors, and also local coaches who have been handpicked by B.O.S. to work at the camps. We make sure that any instructors we hire who are local coaches fit the same vision and philosophies that B.O.S. holds. We do not run our camps based on a particular coach’s philosophy or ideas. We have a developed protocol that we follow for each camp based on our own teachings.
Q: What is a typical day of camp like?
A: Each camp is different, depending on the focus. For example, pitching clinics will differ from hitting clinics; 5-tool camps will differ from fall camps. Generally our daily camp schedule consists of a short introduction to the day’s plans, a detailed warm-up, skill testing, skill teaching, skill development techniques, cool down, and review. Again, we strive to ‘teach’ and improve the skills of ball players and devise our daily camp itinerary to maximize those improvements.
